Why embroidery still owns the vest
Leather wants thread you can feel. Dense custom embroidered patches with a merrowed border are the classic MC look on UK vests and jackets. Printed patches can copy a photo; they sit flatter and photograph closer to a sticker. On hide, that usually looks wrong. When PVC belongs on a bike
Rain, mud, and repeated Velcro swaps destroy fabric patches. Custom PVC patches are moulded rubber: wipe-clean, waterproof in the body, and built for bags and loop panels. Clubs often run embroidered colours on the vest and a PVC version of the same mark on a rain cover. That is two designs from one art file — we mock both so the colours feel related.

Backing: sew-on on leather, never iron-on
Iron-on heat film does not bond to leather, nylon rain shells, or oiled hide. We see peeled corners on vests that were “tacked” with a household iron. Sew-on is the durable default for club colours. Original club marks you own, redraws of your own colours, and files you are authorised to manufacture are normal custom work. We do not clone another club’s colours, trademarks, or “make it just like theirs from a photo.” The same rule as military and morale patches: rights first, then the mockup.
- Send vector (AI, EPS, PDF, SVG) when you have it. A clear photo of an existing patch you own is workable if that is all that exists.
- Spell rocker text, city names, and roman numerals in the quote notes, then check them again on the proof.
