How Much Do Custom Patches Cost? UK Pricing Breakdown by Type and Quantity

Ordering 6 min read

Stacks of custom patches in several sizes next to a UK quote notepad

Key takeaways

  • There is no public price list — quotes follow artwork, size, quantity, and backing.
  • Size in inches and quantity move the unit price more than the process name.
  • A second size, colourway, or backing is a second design with its own 5-piece minimum.
  • Every UK quote includes a free 12-hour mockup so you see the spec before you pay to produce.

“How much do custom patches cost in the UK?” is the right question and the wrong one. The right part: you should know what moves the number before you brief a designer. The wrong part: nobody honest publishes a grid that survives a 2-inch cap logo and a 5-inch back piece on the same page.

We quote from your file. This breakdown sits next to our size, MOQ, and budget guide and how to order. Use it to brief a mockup, not to reverse-engineer a unit price from a photo.

What we will not do

We do not publish a public price list. Coverage, unique shapes, 3D puff, chenille yarn, leather finish, and PVC tooling are different jobs. The quote form’s optional budget slider runs from £60 to £10,000+ so we know the band you are in — it is not a catalogue SKU.

See your artwork as a custom UK patch before you buy. Free digital mockup in 12 hours — 5-piece minimum per design. We do not produce until you approve.

Cost drivers, in order

Driver Why it moves the quote What to send
Longest side (inches) More fill, more material, more time Cap 2–2.5 in, jacket 3–3.5 in, back 4–5 in+
Quantity Setup is amortised; 250 / 500 / 1,000+ drop the unit price 5 minimum per design
Process Embroidery, weave, print, PVC, chenille, and leather are different lines Name the type on the quote
Coverage / colours Dense stitch fill and extra PVC colours cost more Pantones if the brand is strict
Backing Velcro pairs, iron-on film, and sew-on are different finishes Sew-on, iron-on, or Velcro hook/loop
Shape and border Laser-cut outlines and merrowed edges change finishing Note unique shapes on the file

Type is not a shortcut to “cheap”

  • Embroidered looks expensive on a jacket; dense fill still costs.
  • Woven is not automatically cheaper — fine gauges take time.
  • Printed wins on colour count, not always on unit price.
  • PVC has moulding setup; it pays off on weatherproof runs, not on a 5-piece fashion badge.
  • Chenille yarn on a large letter is a different product to a 2-inch crest.
  • Leather hide and finishing sit in their own band.

Minimums and second designs

Minimum is 5 patches per design. A chest logo and a name tab are two designs. A subdued set and a full-colour set are two designs. Mixing sizes in one bag without telling us still counts as separate specs. That is the same rule as size and MOQ.

How to get a number you can use

  1. Send vector art (AI, EPS, PDF, SVG) or a large PNG.
  2. Name type, longest side, quantity, and backing.
  3. Share Pantones if colour is contractual.
  4. Approve the free mockup in writing — production time starts then, not at first email.

After approval, typical production plus free UK-wide shipping is 7–12 business days. Rush exists; ask on the quote. Do not pick printed only to “save money” if the brand needs a raised merrowed look on an £80 jacket.

Frequently asked questions

Why will you not list prices on the site?

Because a 2-inch cap patch and a 5-inch back piece are different jobs. A public grid would be wrong for most files. We quote from artwork, size, quantity, and backing.

Does a bigger quantity always cost less per patch?

Unit price usually falls as you pass roughly 250, 500, and 1,000+ because setup is spread. The 5-piece minimum exists because mockup and setup time are similar whether we run 5 or 50.

Is embroidered always more expensive than printed?

No. Dense stitch fill can cost more; a simple embroidered shape can cost less than a complex print on a special base. We price both from the same quote.

What should I put on the budget slider?

Your real band, from £60 to £10,000+. It helps us spec size and quantity honestly. It is not a checkout price.

Is the mockup free if I do not proceed?

Yes. UK quotes include a free digital mockup, usually within 12 hours, so you can decide with a proof.
