A functional zip pull should help someone operate the slider without catching the surrounding fabric. For example, a club kit bag might use a short tab with a crest symbol; a jacket pocket needs something smaller that will not swing into the wearer's hand. These are design ideas, not universal size rules.

A charm can carry a larger mascot, event emblem or product outline because it does not need to operate the zip. Attach a heavier charm to a suitable handle loop rather than a delicate pocket slider. What size and PVC design should you specify?

Start with the available space, not the full-size logo file. Cut a paper outline and hold it against the bag, checking nearby zips, handles and straps. The dimensions below are starting points to test, not manufacturing limits or confirmed product options.

Keep the grip and logo separate from the attachment

Leave material around the attachment hole rather than placing it in a narrow ear, horn or letter stroke. Specify body thickness, raised areas and whether both faces need artwork. Greater thickness can add bulk and stiffness; very thin sections can be vulnerable to tearing.

For PVC patches and related moulded designs, bold colour areas suit relief better than tiny lettering or gradients. A crest may need its motto removed at this scale. Compare woven patches and printed patches if fine detail matters more than a moulded surface, while checking whether a suitable hanging construction is available.

Which attachment fits the bag or zip?

Photograph the attachment point beside a ruler and measure its clear opening. A fitting must pass through that opening and move freely afterwards; the outside dimensions of the zip tab are not enough. Ask which connector options are available before designing around one.

• Cord loop: light and flexible, but rough metal edges can abrade it. Specify the loop length and check whether the PVC body must pass through it during fitting.
• Split ring: useful where the opening has enough clearance. It can scratch surfaces or distort a small zip tab if forced into place.
• Lobster clasp: convenient for moving a charm between bags. Check the gate opening, clasp size and added weight.
• Strap fitting: can suit a handle or larger loop. Confirm the closure and overall drop so the charm does not hang into a wheel or moving part.

Do not assume a charm can replace a missing zip tab: some sliders have no suitable accessible connection. An attachment also must not interfere with an auto-locking slider's operation. How durable is a PVC pull in daily use?

PVC resists water and can usually be wiped clean, but the complete item is only as durable as its weakest connection. Repeated pulling concentrates stress around the hole; grit can scuff raised surfaces, and cord can wear against sharp edges. A decorative charm should not be treated as a load-bearing handle.

For wet kit bags, ask about the metal fitting's material and finish rather than assuming it will resist corrosion. Water resistance is not proof that an assembled item will tolerate machine washing or tumble drying. Remove detachable accessories before laundering unless their care instructions specifically allow it.
