What printed and sublimated patches actually are
Printed patches put colour onto twill, polyester, or a coated base. Dye-sublimation (commonly around 300 DPI on polyester) infuses dye into the fibre so gradients, skin tones, and fine type stay closer to the original art than thread can. Edges can be merrowed, heat-cut, or laser-cut. The surface is flatter than embroidery. Woven patches are made on a fine loom. Warp and weft pack tight enough for 6-point mottos, damask-style care labels, and crests that fill in when you try to embroider them at 2.5 inches. The surface is flatter than thread and usually thinner than a printed merrowed disc. Fashion brands use woven for neck labels and sleeve flags. Uniform buyers use it when a motto must remain legal-readable at cap size.
