Custom woven patches are the UK spec when the logo has small text, thin lines, or a detailed crest that would fill in as embroidery. Fine yarns interlace (often damask) so type stays readable at sizes where thread blobs. The surface is flatter than a stitched patch. That is the point. At The Customized Patches woven patches use the same commercial path as every other type: 5-piece minimum per design, a free digital mockup usually within 12 hours, then typical production plus UK-wide shipping of 7–12 business days after written approval.
Choose with a comparison, not a Pinterest thumbnail. Thread vs weave: woven vs embroidered. Photo vs weave: printed vs woven. Heritage hide vs weave: leather vs woven. Jacket crests that should feel like a badge still often start embroidered.
What woven patches are (and are not)
Woven patches are fabric badges. Yarns run at a tight pitch so a motto, a coat of arms, or a fashion label stays sharp. They are not chenille (plush yarn). They are not PVC (rubber). They are not sublimation photos. If the brief is “make this 8-point seal readable at 2.5 inches,” start woven. If the brief is “make this snapback wordmark stand up,” start 3D embroidery.

Size, edge, and backing
Caps still want about 2–2.5 inches. Chest marks 3–3.5 inches. Woven edges are often heat-cut so the outline can follow the art; a merrow is possible on some jobs if you want a badge rim. Name the edge: merrowed vs heat-cut vs laser-cut. Backing follows the garment — sew-on for uniforms and hats, iron-on only on compatible cotton, Velcro for gear you swap. Backing types.
Artwork that weaves cleanly
- Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF, SVG). Outline fonts.
- High contrast. Navy-on-navy weave disappears as surely as navy-on-navy thread.
- Pantone numbers when colour is contractual.
- Do not send a 72 dpi screenshot of an old badge and expect 6-point type to survive without a redraw.

How to order woven patches
Select woven on the quote, size in inches, quantity (5 minimum), backing, and edge. Approve spelling of mottos on the mockup — tiny type errors are how woven jobs get reprinted. After approval we manufacture and ship UK-wide. How to order. Cost drivers: UK patch pricing.
