Heat-activated adhesive is the weak link, not the embroidery. Even on cotton, a few stitches around the merrow add insurance if the garment will be washed often. Nylon, leather, and waterproof shells often reject iron-on before the first wash. If the patch is already lifting, stop using heat and sew the edge — or order a sew-on replacement. Minimum is still 5 pieces per design.
Hats, hi-vis, and loop-panel gear
- Structured caps: hand-spot the sweatband if you can. A hot dryer warps visors and stresses sew-on thread. Cap sizes: patches for hats and caps.
- Hi-vis and coated shells: needle holes and heat film both fight the fabric. Ask on the quote before you invent a care routine.
